Tax on occupational pension - how to change it

See what tax is deducted from your pension

Since it is common to receive pension payments from several providers, the one that pays out the largest share of your total income should deduct tax according to the tax table applicable to you. Others should deduct 30%. On My Pages you can see what tax deduction we make on your pension payment from AMF.

If you want to increase the tax deduction

You can set a higher tax deduction than 30% yourself directly on My Pages

If you want a lower tax deduction than 30%

If we are to deduct less than 30% tax, you need to send a certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to us. It must clearly state that it applies to your payment from AMF. You can attach the certificate when logged in to My Pages or send it by post. You need to submit a new certificate each year.

Contact us if you receive the largest part of your total income from AMF. Then we should deduct tax according to the tax table that applies to you.

You will receive an annual statement from us in January

The annual statement shows the information about payments and tax deductions that we have reported for you to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).

Frequently Asked Questions

We deduct tax according to the standard rate for occupational pensions, which is 30%. The Swedish Pensions Agency (Pensionsmyndigheten) deducts tax based on the municipality where you live. If you would like a higher amount of tax to be deducted, you can contact our customer service or log in to My Pages using electronic identification and manage this under the tab “My Details.”

In the year you turn 67, you get a higher basic tax-free allowance and lower tax on your pension (applies to those born between 1957 and 1959). Occupational pensions are taxed as secondary income at a standard rate of 30% and are therefore not adjusted automatically.

The tax is automatically reduced on the largest part of your income, usually the public pension, which is taxed according to the tax table.

If you live abroad, the tax on your pension payments may be lower. You can contact the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) and apply for Special Income Tax for Non-Residents (SINK).

If the Swedish Tax Agency approves your application, you will receive a decision regarding SINK, which includes information on how much tax you need to pay.

If you receive a decision on special income tax, you need to send it to us. It must specify that the decision applies to payments from AMF.
